FAQ
1。 Should I learn pinyin or zhuyin?
Pinyin is the standard romanization system used for Mandarin Chinese and is widely taught and used in Mainland China, Taiwan, and Singapore. Shuyin (also known as Bopomofo) is a phonetic notation system used mainly in Taiwan to teach Chinese pronunciation and phonetics.
If you are planning to learn Mandarin Chinese, Pinyin is generally the recommended system to learn. This is because Pinyin is the most widely used system and is essential for typing Chinese characters on a computer or mobile device.
However, if you are specifically interested in learning the pronunciation and phonetics of Chinese as used in Taiwan, then Shuyin may be a more appropriate choice.
Ultimately, the choice between Pinyin and Shuyin depends on your specific learning goals and needs. I can teach both pinyin and zhuyin!
2。 Should I learn Traditional or Simplified Chinese?
Whether to learn Traditional or Simplified Chinese depends on your specific learning goals and needs.
Simplified Chinese is the standard writing system used in Mainland China, while Traditional Chinese is the standard writing system used in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and other overseas Chinese communities.
Another factor to consider is your personal interests and the materials you want to read. If you are interested in reading classical Chinese literature or historical documents, Traditional Chinese may be more suitable, as many of these texts were written in Traditional Chinese characters.
Ultimately, the choice between Traditional and Simplified Chinese depends on your specific needs and interests. Many learners of Mandarin Chinese choose to learn both systems to be able to read and write in both Traditional and Simplified Chinese characters.
I can teach both Traditional or Simplified Chinese!
